Risk Groups & Recommendations

Class I–II (<70 pts)	Outpatient treatment. Minimal mortality risk.
Class III (71–90 pts)	Observation or brief hospital stay. Mortality risk ~0.9%.
Class IV (91–130 pts)	Inpatient treatment. Mortality risk ~9%.
Class V (>130 pts)	Inpatient treatment; consider ICU. Mortality risk ~27%.

Variables

Demographics: Age, Sex, Nursing home resident

Comorbidities: Neoplasia, Liver disease, CHF, Cerebrovascular disease, Renal disease

Exam: Altered mental status, RR ≥30, SBP <90, Temp <35 or ≥40, HR ≥125

Labs/Imaging: pH <7.35, BUN ≥30, Sodium <130, Glucose ≥250, Hematocrit <30, pO2 <60, Pleural effusion
