When to Use
The Penetrating Abdominal Trauma Index (PATI) is a research and clinical tool used to quantify the severity of intra-abdominal injuries following penetrating trauma (gunshot or stab wounds). It is primarily calculated intraoperatively or retrospectively to estimate the risk of postoperative complications and to benchmark trauma care quality.
A PATI score > 25 is a critical threshold associated with a significant increase in postoperative complications (approaching 50% risk).
Related Scores in Practice
In clinical practice, this assessment is frequently evaluated alongside other validated measures. Depending on the patient's presentation and specific diagnostic requirements, you may also need to utilize the Iss Score, Pati Organ Risk, or the Pati Calculator to formulate a comprehensive care plan.
