When to Use
The Penetrating Abdominal Trauma Index (PATI) is a research and clinical tool used to quantify the severity of intra-abdominal injuries following penetrating trauma (gunshot or stab wounds). It is primarily calculated intraoperatively or retrospectively to estimate the risk of postoperative complications and to benchmark trauma care quality.
A PATI score > 25 is a critical threshold associated with a significant increase in postoperative complications (approaching 50% risk).
