When to Use
The mFI-5 is a streamlined version of the 11-item Modified Frailty Index, designed for rapid bedside assessment of physiological reserve. In trauma, it is primarily used to identify geriatric patients at high risk for complications, failure to rescue, and mortality.
Frailty is a better predictor of adverse outcomes in the elderly than chronological age alone. A patient with mFI-5 ≥ 2 is often considered "frail."
Related Scores in Practice
In clinical practice, this assessment is frequently evaluated alongside other validated measures. Depending on the patient's presentation and specific diagnostic requirements, you may also need to utilize the Iss Score, Mfi 11 Frailty, or the Geriatric Trauma Outcomes to formulate a comprehensive care plan.
