When to Use
RibScore is a CT-based radiographic scoring system designed to predict adverse pulmonary outcomes in patients with blunt chest wall trauma. Unlike simple rib fracture counting, RibScore incorporates specific injury patterns (displacement, location, flail) that correlate with respiratory failure and the need for tracheostomy.
RibScore is a linear predictor: as the score increases from 0 to 6, the probability of pneumonia, tracheostomy, and prolonged ventilation increases significantly.
