When to Use

When to Use

Initial screening for patients with suspected mild bleeding disorders (e.g., vWD, platelet function defects).

To quantify bleeding symptoms in a standardized, reproducible manner.

Differentiating healthy individuals with "normal" bleeding from those requiring specialized haemostasis workup.

Patient Population

Adult and pediatric patients referred for evaluation of a bleeding tendency. Validated across sexes.

When Not to Rely on This Score Alone

Acute life-threatening haemorrhage — use acute triage and management protocols.

Monitoring response to factor replacement — ISTH-BAT is a historical phenotype tool, not a dynamic marker of therapy.

Acquired bleeding disorders (e.g., DIC, TTP) — the score was developed for inherited coagulopathies.
